ABOUT: Whilst Pikes Beer was first sold in 1886 and followed by soft drinks and cordials in 1940, it wasn’t until 1988 that Andrew and brother Neil established Pikes Wines in the Polish Hill River Valley sub-region of the Clare Valley. Andrew had, by this time already had an illustrious career working for the famous Wynnns Coonawarra Estate and Penfolds Wines.
The Polish Hill River Estate is 450m above sea level, higher than both the Barossa and the Clare Valley. The resulting variation in diurnal (day to night) temperatures makes this cooler climate ideal for the cultivation of Riesling.
Using a sustainable approach, winemaking techniques involve as little intervention as possible during the vinification process thus preserving the integrity and purity of fruit.
The 2020 vintage marks the 36th release and sits comfortably amongst some of their best vintages. Drinking well now, it will also cellar for 10 years or more.
