ABOUT: The Castaño family are Monastrell experts owning over 410 hectares of vineyards in the Yecla DO in south eastern Spain. 80% of their vineyards are planted with the Monastrell grape variety. Here there is a warm climate and an altitude of 750m above sea level, which helps to give their dry farmed bush and trellis old vines (viñas viejas) great character and finesse. This wonderful blend has been aged in French and American oak (80:20%) for 10 months and whilst the 2016 vintage was affected by drought, the consequent lower yield of grapes were of high quality with a fantastic concentration of flavour. A stunningly pure and textured wine.
