ABOUT: Four Chilean friends or “Fous” (crazy men) founded this project breaking traditional vineyard boundaries by sourcing grapes from vineyards in extreme conditions further south and east of the main vineyard areas. One of these four men, Pedro Parras, is credited with discovering many top sites across Chile as well as revolutionising the way iconic wineries such as Montes plant and manage their vineyards.
‘Cauquenina” meaning a girl from Cauquenes is a blend of five varietals, each of which were vinified separately with fermentation taking place in cement vats. A portion of the wine was aged in new French oak while the remainder was placed in one year old oak barrels. This is very well structured, lively wine with floral notes and hints of graphite and earth.
