About Us/FAQ

We are proud of our beginnings and are just as passionate of our service, produce and customers.

About Us

It all began in 1977

Ray Sandy, founder of Sandys Fishmongers was a fishmonger most
of his life, working at Mac Fisheries at East Grinstead at first before
going it alone. A shop at Kings Street, Twickenham became
available soon after Stuart Sandy joined the partnership.

Mrs Sandys says: “The business went from strength to strength – with Ray’s winning smile and his passion for his work, together with Stuart’s enthusiasm, it became a winning combination.”

Passionate about good food and community

Sandys Fishmongers is a unique food outlet: a shop that harks back
to a time of the old school shop keeper who cares about his
customers and community. Nothing but the best produce would be considered for sale. The rich variety we stock includes fish, meat,
game, cheese, groceries smoked specialties and homemade produce.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

At Sandys Fishmongers in Twickenham, our friendly fishmongers always do their best to answer your questions in-store. Here are a few of the frequently asked questions we get from our loyal customers and the responses correct at the time of going press!

Q. How can I store my fish longer without freezing it?

A. On request, we will "Vac-Pac" your fish; this method will help extend the shelf-life of your fish. The fish is placed in a special bag and the air is removed before being sealed.

Q. My recipe asks for fillets but I only see whole fish on display?

A. Sandys will prepare your fish for you free of charge, just how your recipe calls for.

Q. Can I freeze my fish?

A. Yes! None of our fresh fish has ever been frozen - see your freezer's guide for how long it will stay frozen.

Q. How often does your fish come into stock?

A. Almost every day! Our fish comes from either Billingsgate Market in London, or directly from the coasts of the UK.

Q. Can I place an order through your website and have it delivered?

A. Whilst you can't place an order directly through the website, you can ring us up at our store in Twickenham and we'll happily deliver within the local area.

Q. What is the best way to cook fish?

A. Our staff can recommend a suitable method, or you can try a recipe from our recipe database!

Q. I came into your shop an hour before you closed but there was no fish on display (although the salesman was helpful and got the fish I wanted out of the fridge for me). Why was this?

A. We are committed to hygiene, with our cleaning procedure taking around 1.5 hours to complete. The fish has to be removed before we can thoroughly clean & rinse every display container and counter. Afterwards, the floors are scrubbed with bleach and rinsed. Our staff will continue to serve whilst we clean.
